Brides and bridegrooms-to-be can still host their big day

-

KUALA LUMPUR: As many couples are set to tie the knot during the one-week school holiday, the outbreak of Covid-19 may be a cause of concern among guests.

However, Twitter user @bazlinj recently shared a video entitled “Covid-19 style of wedding”, giving tips on how a reception could still be held amidst the virus outbreak in the country.

In the 11-second video, a bridegroom was accompanied by a friend holding a bottle of hand sanitiser. Following the former closely, the friend was seen pumping a small amount of sanitiser for each guest before they shook hands with the bridegroom.

It was not certain where the video was taken, but the post had garnered 365,000 views, 28,000 likes and retweeted 40,700 times as of noon yesterday.

Twitter user @thef **klife said; “There is no need to postpone any event, just do like this (referring to the video).”

Another user, @syukaholic, said the move was probably the best effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19, while @zul_0mar said his family had planned to give hand sanitisers as a door gift.

Twitter user @drac4ry5 said: “Usually, we use air mawar. But now, because of Covid-19, we are using hand sanitiser.

Adat (custom) is maintained, only using the safer technique.”

User @use_ree claimed that the video was taken in Brunei and urged people to stay clean by practising good hygiene.

The Health Ministry had issued a poster guideline for hosts and guests to adhere at weddings.

The guidelines for hosts include to avoid shaking hands with guests, practise social distancing of at least one metre, washing hands regularly with soap or hand sanitiser, providing places to wash hands and, if possible, to provide hand sanitiser.

As for guests, the guidelines include avoiding handshakes with the host; washing hands regularly using soap, practising social distancing of at least one metre and using a face mask if they experienced symptoms of a flu.

The school holidays for Group A schools (Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu) started yesterday until March 21, while for Group B schools (Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perlis, Penang, Perak, Putrajaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Selangor), it will begin tomorrow until March 22.

On Thursday, nine new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the country, bringing the total to 158.
