Woman loses RM100,000 in currency exchange scam
A 27-year-old beautician was cheated of RM100,000 by a man who promised to help her to get a currency exchange licence. Seberang Perai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the women was introduced to the suspect by a friend in January. “She was asked to make a payment of RM100,000 by the suspect for the application process and she made the payment in four cheques, which she gave the suspect between January and early this month.” The woman became suspicious when the man asked for additional payment and lodged a report last Friday when her attempts to contact the suspect proved futile. The police have identified the suspect and are looking for him.
