4 men packing drugs arrested

Police arrested four men who were packing drugs in a store in the backyard of a home in Kampung Bohor Masjid here on Saturday.

Langkawi district police chief Superinten­dent Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the men, aged between 24 and 28, were arrested at 7.45pm.

He said they were sitting on the floor when police raided a store that served as their spot for packing drugs.

“Investigat­ions on the suspects’ bodies and in the floor of the store revealed substances suspected to be heroin and syabu weighing 40.6g.

“Also seized were a digital weighing machine, scissors and transparen­t plastic.”

Iqbal said the men tested positive for drugs, with three of them having drugrelate­d records.

“All the suspects are unemployed. The case is being investigat­ed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.”

He said in a raid at 11.40pm on the same day at a shop in Kampung Ayer Hangat, here, police arrested a 26-year-old man and seized 7.7g of syabu and heroin.

“The suspect from Kuala Nerang, Kedah, has been remanded in custody and is under investigat­ion under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, they can be sentenced to between two and five years’ imprisonme­nt and receive three to nine strokes of the rotan.”
