THE national bowlers will have to wait a little longer before they can return to the lanes.

The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) were hoping to have their bowlers back in training in Bandar Sunway following the government’s decision to enforce the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

The congress submitted a proposal, which outlined social distancing during training, to the National Sports Council (NSC) in the hope of getting an approval.

However, it was immediately shot down by the NSC yesterday.

According to the criteria listed under the CMCO, non-contact sports are allowed to resume from tomorrow. However, indoor sports are still not allowed.

Currently, all bowlers are working out at home to stay fit.

Most major tournaments have either been called off or postponed.

“We will wait for directives from the Sports Ministry and the NSC.

“We had some proposals but the NSC informed us that we will have to wait a little longer before our bowlers can resume training,” said MTBC secretary-general Maradona Chok.

It is learnt that MTBC had proposed for only six bowlers per session at the Sunway Mega Lanes, but it was still not good enough to convince NSC.

MTBC, however, do not feel too hard done by the decision.

“Our athletes are doing okay so far. Our only concern is that players will lose their accuracy on the lanes.

“Other than that, nothing is going on. Tournaments have all been cancelled or postponed. We will just wait for new directives from the NSC,” Maradona added.
