Police map schedule for interstate travel

May 7 to 10

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have allocated four days from May 7 to 10 enable members of the public stranded during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period to travel outstation back to their homes.

Federal police Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the travel period from May 7 to 10 would allow those from selected states to travel home, ensure smooth traffic flow and avoid congestion.

“On Thursday (May 7), only those stranded in Kuala Lumpur will be able to head home to other states in the country.

“May 8 is allocated for those in Perak, Johor and Kelantan to head to their destinations, especially Kuala Lumpur.

“On May 9, the travel movement will only be for those from Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Melaka and Pahang. May 10 is for those in Selangor, Negri Sembilan dan Terengganu,” he said at Bukit Aman here yesterday.

The schedule, he said, was to prevent those from other states from arriving at the same location at the same time. He advised people to travel at night.

Huzir reminded travellers that only public toilets were open and that rest and relaxation (R&R) facilities, such as restaurants, would not be operating.

He said around 1.16 million smartphone users had downloaded the Gerak Malaysia app, which applicants could use to apply for permission for interstate travel.

He said police had so far received 462,505 applications between April 25 and May 1.

Those who do not have smartphones to use the Gerak Malaysia app can arrange for an appointment with the police to apply for their interstate travel permits.

Huzir said they could download the travel interstate forms, which were available on the police’s official Facebook and Twitter pages to set an appointment.

“Call your nearest police station and make an appointment. The approval will be made the same day the forms are submitted.”

For Gerak Malaysia app users, Huzir said there would be no QR codes generated or notifications for applications made during the four-day interstate travel period.

Gerak Malaysia users must first update the application before submitting their interstate travel applications.

Huzir said the public could travel home with their family members, but must fill in details for those over the age of 16.

He said the travel period was strictly only for those stranded and needed to head home.

Huzir said the police would take action against those who try to take advantage of the allocated four-day interstate travel period.

He said the travel period would only be applicable to Peninsular Malaysia as Sabah and Sarawak had their own set of terms on the interstate travel movement.
