MAJUPERAK Holdings Bhd’s solar power business expansion is an ideal initiative to apply renewable energy solutions in its other businesses, said chief executive officer Nizran Nordin.

He said renewable energy was a fast-growing business, with solar being one of the most consistent and reliable sources of energy.

“Malaysia is blessed with sunlight all year round. There is no better time to start building solar awareness.

“We are certain that there are viable opportunities in this segment,” Nizran told the New

Straits Times recently.

He said Majuperak had secured a feed-in-tariff (FIT) deal with the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda) in 2013.

FIT is a scheme where renewable energy producers sell power to Tenaga Nasional Bhd.

“We have a 1.5-megawatt plant in Simpang Pulai that has been operational since 2014. The plant generates about 1,700 megawatt hours of energy annually and contributes about RM1.7 million in revenue a year.”

Nizran said the company’s solar business expansion was its first step towards diversification by leveraging Seda’s opportunities under the net energy metering model.

“We will also identify suitable rooftops across Perak to install photovoltaic (PV) panels. This business model is expected to offer consistent income up to 25 years.”

Majuperak has been in discussions with potential clients, including building owners from the public and private sectors.

Nizran said its potential clients were not limited to office building owners but also included residential, commercial and industrial building owners.

Majuperak’s renewable energy initiative can be introduced in the company’s new housing projects as an added value to home owners to reduce their energy cost.

“We are confident our clientele in Perak will find solar energy an ideal alternative. We have had discussions with potential clients and they are keen to proceed with this. Hence, we believe the uptake will be strong.”

Nizran said the government had rolled out incentives to promote solar conversions.

“To ease conversion into solar, we will also offer a green solar financing programme where our partner will finance the clients’ entire solar PV systems for a period of time. MAJUPERAK WEBSITE PIC

“Clients get to enjoy the benefits of solar energy at zero upfront cost and a peace of mind as we will be maintaining the systems throughout the tenure.”

Majuperak also offers energy efficiency programme to help optimise its clients’ energy consumption.

“With all these offerings, Majuperak will provide the necessary business models to our clients and become a total solutions provider in sustainable energy savings.”

Nizran also said having solar panels should give the state government a five to 15 per cent savings on energy bills a year.
