Four fined RM1,000 each for interstate travel using fake job offer letter

-

CHUKAI: Having successfully passed through three roadblocks, four men thought they were on the home stretch to the east coast by travelling during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) using fake documents.

However, the fourth time wasn’t the charm. Police personnel at the fourth roadblock, mounted in Persaing at the East Coast Highway 1 (LPT2), were on the ball.

When they checked the “job offer” letters produced by the men, they established that it was nothing more than a ruse.

The four men, aged between 20 and 37, had travelled interstate from Selangor to Besut, Terengganu, and were supposed to head to destinations in Kelantan when they were detained at the roadblock at 9.15am.

The four were not only issued with compounds but were also ordered to travel back to where they came from.

Kemaman district police Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said the four, travelling in a Proton Persona, claimed to have passed three roadblocks in Kajang, Gombak and Bentong by using the job offer letter ruse.

He said when police personnel stopped them at the fourth roadblock and demanded to see their interstate travel letter, they said they did not have it and only showed the job offer letter.

“Police personnel checked the job offer letter and upon further checks, found that the address stated in the document did not exist.”

The 37-year-old driver then admitted that he was hired by the three men to send them to their destinations in Besut and Kelantan.

“The driver admitted to receiving RM350 to send the three men to their destinations and was shown the ‘job offer’ letter from the three men as the reason for their interstate travel.”

Hanyan said the four men eventually admitted that the letter was forged by their friend’s brother.

Meanwhile, three cyclists from Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, were compounded RM1,000 each for illegally crossing state lines to cycle to Jelebu, Negri Sembilan.

Jelebu district police chief Deputy Superintendent Maslan Udin said the trio, aged between 30 and 40, were detained at the entrance of Kampung Chennah at 10am on Thursday by police and the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) personnel.

He said the three men failed to furnish any reasonable explanation or show valid documents for their interstate travel.

“All three were fined RM1,000 each under Section 25 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

“Should they fail to pay the compound at the Jelebu district Health Centre by June 3, legal action will be taken against them.”

Maslan reminded the public not to undertake interstate travel, whether it involved bicycles, motorcycle convoys or vehicles, during the CMCO period in the district without the permission of the police.
