POLICE detained 29 individuals nationwide on Saturday for flouting the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said of the total, eight were remanded and 21 were fined.
“Their offences include activities at pubs or nightclubs (three individuals), activities involving large groups of people, making it difficult for social distancing (13 individuals), and other activities that went against standard operating procedures (SOPs),” he said in a statement yesterday.
Ismail Sabri also said a total of 1,000 Malaysians had returned to the country through Kuala Lumpur International Airport and klia2.
They had flown in from Iran, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, Qatar, Myanmar, Australia, the Netherlands, India, South Korea and Japan.
“Of the total, 998 were told to undergo home quarantine, while two were sent to the hospital.
“The police also made 1,230 checks on Malaysian returnees currently undergoing home quarantine, and found that all of them are abiding by SOPs.”
In a related development, he said the Construction Industry Development Board had checked nine construction sites and found that all were adhering to SOPs.
Ismail Sabri said there was an adequate supply of essential goods in the country and that they were easily available and able to meet continuous demand.
He said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry had conducted checks on the supply of 12 essential goods at 752 business premises — including 560 retailers, 162 wholesalers and 30 factories — nationwide.
“The ministry’s enforcement officers (also) conducted 1,027 special SOP Compliance checks and found that 1,017 premises complied with SOPs, while 10 were advised over their non-compliance.
“During the RMCO, the government urges businesses and the public to always practise selfcontrol and good personal hygiene, especially in trading activities.”
On the dissemination of fake news, Ismail Sabri said the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had opened 266 investigation papers on Covid-19-related disinformation.
He said 172 were still being investigated, 30 cases had been charged in court, 12 were given warning notices, 13 had gone to trial, and 17 had pleaded guilty.
“The police and the MCMC will continue to conduct strict monitoring on the spread of fake news. The government views this seriously and will not compromise on the matter.”
