Residents queue as early as 7am to stock up on water

- SHAH ALAM:

Residents around Shah Alam and Klang began queuing at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) hall in Section 4 here as early as 7am yesterday to stock up on water.

Checks revealed that residents made several trips to the location in Jalan Durian 4/1 to ensure that they have adequate water supply at home.

Shaparin Abdul Rahim from Meru, Klang, said he rushed to the location after receiving information on WhatsApp and the Air Selangor mobile app.

“Coincidentally, I was with my family at Shah Alam Hospital. I came here right after we were done there.

“Our water supply has been cut off since 12pm on Thursday. Before we knew about this place (to get water), we bought many bottles of water, which will be used especially for drinking.

“I hope the government will take this issue seriously and gazette riverbanks so that no factories can be built in such areas as it can affect the environment and people.”

Another consumer, Mogan

Dhas Giri, 39, expressed disappointment with the Selangor government over the frequent water disruptions.

“I am disappointed because water disruptions are happening too often in Selangor. The state government has to be stricter, especially in its enforcement.

“Take action against the factories involved.”

Al Basir Sarip Basal from Section 24 here said he was thankful that he could get enough water for his family of four.

“Our water supply has been cut off since 8pm on Thursday. I bought bottles of water for my family before finding out about this water distribution point through the Air Selangor app.”

Aliya Nor Azman from Section 7 here said the water authorities needed to step up their surveillance around water sources to ensure that those who caused water pollution could be caught immediately.

“I can understand if we have to deal with water cuts for the sake of improving the water treatment plant.

“But this issue has been ongoing and is due to the same reason. It is always caused by water pollution. We are tired of this.

“I think it is time for the government to step in. Find out what is the cause of the problem and fix it. Punish the culprits.”

Another resident of Section 7, Muhammad Hilman Heza, felt that the authorities must compensate for difficulties faced by the people due to water disruptions.

“Throughout the year, they will cut out the water supply for unnecessary reasons. Can you imagine how this unwarranted situation is affecting those who are in need?”

Muhammad Kamarulzaman Suraimi from Kampung Melayu, Subang, said he had grown tired of water disruptions.

“As I have been living in Selangor for more than 20 years, I am used to these issues. So when our taps dry up, my family and I know the drill.

“But after 20 years (too), it is starting to get unbearable, especially when it happens so suddenly.

“I understand that it is unscheduled, but do they know how much hassle this has caused to all of us?”

It was learnt that two water tankers carrying 500 litres of water each have been providing water supply from the Setia Alam filling station for residents since 5pm on Thursday.
