KUALA LUMPUR: The number of people arrested for breaching Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) standard operating procedures (SOP) dropped significantly to 48 on Thursday compared with 198 on Wednesday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 47 violators were compounded, while one was given bail.

“Among the offences were failure to provide materials necessary to register patrons at business premises (12), not wearing face masks (17), premises operating after hours (13), flouting the quarantine order (one) and participating in large gatherings that prevented physical distancing (5),” he said yesterday.

He said offenders were nabbed by RMCO SOP task force teams, involving 13,042 personnel and more than 58,000 checks.

The 3,059 teams checked 3,703 supermarkets, 4,955 restaurants, 1,255 hawkers, 1,137 factories, 3,863 banks, 1,039 government offices, as well as 1,071 land, 219 water and 1 20 air transport terminals.

Checks by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry on 12 essential items at 732 business premises, including retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers, found that supply was ample.

“It is sufficient and able to cope with the country’s demand. The items are easily available. Ministry enforcement officers found that 1,399 premises adhered to the SOP and 17 were given advice for not following the rules.

“During the RMCO, the government urged business operators and the public to always practise physical distancing and good personal hygiene, especially when buying daily needs.”

Checks by the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board found that 21 construction sites had adhered to the SOP and one was issued a warning for not following it.

Ismail Sabri said 14 sanitisation operations were carried out in 10 yellow zones and eight green zones in five states on Wednesday.

Seven operations were conducted in Sarawak, three in Melaka, two in Sabah, one in Johor and another in Putrajaya.
