JB City Council man sees boom in burger sales after viral rescue video

- JOHOR BARU

JOHOR Baru City Council parking enforcement officer, Sh a zr in Hafeez Fadzlan, 26, said that the viral closed- circuit television footage of him rushing to the rescue of a female snatch theft victim and wrestling the thief to the ground had brought luck to his burger stall business.

He said business had never been better since he opened his stall in Jalan Anggerik 40, Taman Johor Jaya three years ago, with people eager to buy his burgers just like on Wednesday night.

“I sell burgers for extra income from 7pm to 11.30pm, and usually between 60 and 70 are sold per night, but yesterday’s (Wenesday) sales increased to over 200 burgers. I didn’t expect the video to go viral on social media, but I am grateful for the public’s support.

“I wouldn’t hesitate to respond in the same way again if it helps society,” Shazrin said when contacted on Thursday.

The incident happened around noon on Tuesday, while he was going around Jalan Austin Height 8/9 in Taman Mount Austin to check if motorists had paid for parking.

“When I turned to see where the screams for help were coming from, I saw the snatch thief falling from his motorcycle while trying to get away.

“Without giving it much thought, I ran towards the thief to try and catch him. It was an instinctive reaction and the risks didn’t cross my mind.

“Luckily there were some members of the public who came to help catch the thief as well,” said Shazrin, who sustained minor injuries on the right hand in the tussle with the suspect.
