POLICE are in danger of becoming the first Super League team to end the season with “minus points”. The Cops started the season on minus three, and they have yet to break even after five matches.

Ishak Kunju’s side drew 0-0 with Sabah in their opening match in March before losing to Melaka (31), Johor Darul Ta’zim (1-0), UiTM FC (3-1) and Kedah (2-0).

Police are currently on minus two at the bottom of the standings with six matches left to play.

It is certainly a tall order for Police to catch up and avoid relegation.

If Police finish the season with minus points, it might affect the prestige of the M-League and also the Malaysia Football League’s efforts to attract sponsorship.

The former Premier League champions, however, hope their fortunes will change when they face Felda United in Cheras today.

Ishak, who had to work with a small budget to prepare his team for the season, feels his players, comprising mostly Police personnel, do not have the confidence to take on big teams in the Super League.

“Only goalkeeper Bryan See and R. Surendran are playing well. I am disappointed with the rest.

“Consistency is important. However, we are lacking in this area. This is because we are not confident during matches,” said Ishak.

He also feels some players are not motivated to play good football.

“They should be grateful that they have a team as many players out there are jobless. They need to change their attitude and do better,” Ishak added.

Police also hold the record as being the worst-performing team in the Super League to date. In the 2009 season, they finished last in the 14-team competition with only three points.
