PTPTN receives RM40,000 tithe from Bank Islam

-

THE future education of four hundred asnaf (hardcore poor) children in the city here will be brighter thanks to the zakat perniagaan (business tithe) aid received by the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) from Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd.

The RM40,000 tithe will be given to the children in the form of Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional (SSPN) savings accounts.

PTPTN chief executive officer Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid said the children would receive RM100 each, and the money would be credited into their SSPN accounts.

“With the assistance, we hope that the children will benefit more from the savings through SSPN-i and that this will help them to further their studies in the future.

“We hope that this contribution will encourage them to consistently save their money into their SSPN-i accounts.

“We encourage corporate agencies and banking institutions to emulate Bank Islam’s initiative by giving tithe or other types of donations in the form of SSPN (contribution).

“This is crucial for the future of the younger generation to obtain an education at the higher level,” he said at the business tithe handover ceremony here yesterday.

Present was Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd chief executive officer Mohd Muazzam Mohamed.

Muazzam said Bank Islam was committed to supporting the national education agenda by contributing the tithe to the needy, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the pandemic had affected the livelihood and income of all Malaysians.

“Bank Islam has achieved a profit before tax and tithe amounting to RM843.5 million in its 2019 financial report.

“The total amount is an increase of 4.1 per cent compared with the previous year.

“Such an achievement could not be obtained without the support from all relevant partners, including PTPTN.

“With this, we have recorded the overall business tithe as of last year at RM10.8 million.”

Meanwhile, on the SSPN deposit collection, Dasuki said PTPTN had collected RM779.1 million as of July 31 and was expected to reach its target of RM1.5 billion by the end of

this year.

He added that despite the ongoing pandemic, people realised that it made good sense to save their money with Bank Islam as

some of the leftover money from their PTPTN loan repayments would be credited into their SSPN accounts, which saw an increase in the trend this year.
