LICENCE TO SELL FOOD FROM HOME

Selangor govt wants to encourage people to conduct businesses in the correct way

THE Selangor government is encouraging people to set up a food business in front of their homes with the introduction of a temporary licence for this purpose.

State Entrepreneur, Rural, Village and Traditional Village Development Committee chairman Rodziah Ismail said the decision to issue the temporary licences was due to the number of people involved in such forms of businesses to supplement their income.

“We want to facilitate the method (of issuing such licences) and help the rakyat who want to set up businesses in front of their homes. We want to encourage them to have a licensed business venture, and to conduct it in the correct way.

“However, traders must follow certain conditions.

“Among them is the need for a trader to obtain an anti-typhoid shot and to maintain cleanliness at their respective premises,” she said when contacted yesterday.

Rodziah said only take-aways were allowed at such premises, and traders were prohibited from placing tables and chairs for dine-in purposes.

She said by issuing the temporary licences, it would help the state government in terms of statistics and keeping records of licensed traders.

“The application (process) for these licences will be easier and each licence is valid for a year.

“However, traders must renew their licence once every three months.

“If the trader still wishes to continue the business after a year, we will place them at a suitable location.”

Rodziah said applications for the licences could be made at the traders’ respective local authority.

The opening date for applications will soon be announced by the state Local Government, Public Transport and New Village Development Committee.

She said traders would likely be able to begin using the licence starting next year.
