HONG LEONG YAMAHA LAUNCHES THE MT-25

HE rise of the naked sports category has a lot to do with Yamaha’s MT-09. Launched just as the category’s popularity rose, the MT-09 quickly became Malaysia’s fastest selling naked sportsbike. However, the was a void which was unfulfilled; the quarter-litre sports naked.
Hong Leong was aware of the clamouring for the l’il sports naked bike and many other Asian markets received their version earlier. But the wait is now over; the MT-25 is now here in Malaysia.
The MT-25 shares its platform with the class-leading R25 sportsbike except for its aggressive MT styling and upright riding position. Born for the city, the MT DNA is infused within the MT-25 through the styling as well as a few changes which boost the engine’s torque.
ThThe same water-cooled,ld 249249cc DOHC inline twin with 4 valves per cylinder as the R25, the powerplant produces 26.5kW @ 12,000rpm and 23.6Nm of torque @ 10,000rpm.
Inverted forks and monoshock rear suspensionp are presentp and correct as well as dual channel ABS. The lighting is purely LED and the aggressive ‘mask’ it wears have DRL ‘eyes’ to complete the look of the ‘Rush of Darkness’.
Priced competitively at RM21,500 excluding road tax and insurance, the MT-25 is available in Ice Fluo or Yamaha Blue from Sept 18 onwards. Each purchase will receive an exclusive pewter arrow-shaped keychain crafted by Royal Selangor.
Hong Leong also sprung a surprise unveil; the MT-15. The MT-25’s little brother is dubbed ‘Spirit of Darkness’ and looks even more menacing than big brother.
Sporting the R15’s powertrain with numerous upgrades, the MT-15 looks to be a big hit and completes the Yamaha MT series. However, it will only be available in November and the price has yet to be announced by HLYM.
