King concerned over recent surge in Covid-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang diPertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has expressed concern over the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.

In a statement yesterday, Istana Negara’s Comptrolle­r of the Royal Household, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said the king was worried over the increase of 36 Covid-19 cases in the peninsula involving returnees from Sabah between Sept 20 and Sept 27 .

totalAof 150 new cases were reported on Sunday, bringing the tally to 10,919.

“His Majesty advises the people to take care, remain vigilant and continue to adhere to the guidelines on new norms following the current Covid-19 situation in Malaysia, which is on a rising trend,” the statement read.

Ahmad Fadil also said Al-Sultan Abdullah was touched by the people’s concern and prayers extended for His Majesty’s health.

He said the king remained in a stable condition and was recovering from food poisoning and other injuries sustained during sports.

“Al-Sultan Abdullah had undergone treatment for food poisoning after he was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Sept 21.

“The following day, His Majesty underwent interventi­on treatment for injuries sustained during sports activities that were detected through MRI scanning.

“His Majesty is very active in several sports, such as equestrian polo, football, squash, hockey and golf. Interventi­on treatment involving His Majesty’s knee joints and ankle were concluded successful­ly on Sept 24. The Agong is now in a stable condition and his condition is not worrying.”

Ahmad Fadil said the king had also been advised to undergo a follow-up treatment apart from being placed under close monitoring by a team of experts at IJN.

He added that the Agong was scheduled to return to Istana Negara soon after completing follow-up treatments.

It was reported that the Agong was admitted to the royal ward at IJN after complainin­g of feeling unwell.
