Cops: Pahang school, bank not closed due to virus

-

KUANTAN: Police have denied claims that a primary school and a bank here were closed due to Covid-19 infections.

Pahang deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said besides four mosques that were ordered to temporarily close last Friday, no other premises had been instructed to cease operations due to the pandemic.

“The bank in Jalan Bukit Ubi is closed today (yesterday) for a detailed cleaning process and will reopen for business tomorrow (today). The primary school in Permatang Badak is operating as usual.

“The public should not panic or make assumptions. Do not share unverified news as it only causes inconvenience,” he said after a press conference on a drug seizure.

Yusri urged the public to adhere to the standard operating procedures implemented by the Health Ministry.

“Do not take things lightly as the fight (against Covid-19) is not over. People must continue practising the new norm.”

Social media was abuzz yesterday with allegations that a primary school and a bank were ordered to close after one of their pupils and staff respectively had come into contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19.

The bank had placed a notice at its entrance informing customers that it was closed yesterday for cleaning.

Earlier yesterday, state Health Committee chairman Datuk Seri Norol Azali Sulaiman said Masjid Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah in Sungai Isap, Masjid Othman Ibnu Affan in Bukit Rangin, Masjid Lama Permatang Badak and Masjid alHidayah Paya Besar were ordered to close last week after a congregant tested positive for Covid19.
