I am worried about my 85-year-old mother, says man

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Being the most vulnerable group in the current pandemic, senior citizens in Medan Idaman, Setapak, are wary of the emergence of a new Covid-19 cluster.

Zainal Mohammad Yunuf shared his concerns for his 85year-old mother’s safety and health.

“I came back from Terengganu and will be here for two weeks to look after my mother.

“I can take care of her now but after I leave, I’m worried she may come into contact with people who are infected with Covid-19,” said the 65-year-old pensioner.

Zainal said the public must stay alert and religiously follow all standard operating procedures when they are outdoors.

“The onus is on us to take care of our own safety and health. Like the prime minister said, #KitaJagaKita (we take care of each other),” he said.

Meanwhile, Sri Vali Perumal, 48, who lives at the People’s Housing Project low-cost flats near Medan Idaman, has urged the public to limit their outdoor activities.

“People should avoid unnecessary movements and maintain physical distancing whenever they are at shops or restaurants,” she said.

Muhammad Khairul Iman Hussein ,27, said although an Enhanced Movement Control Order is unlikely to be carried out in Setapak at the moment, the public must be responsible to avoid that from happening.

“From my observations, many people, especially foreigners, are quite lackadaisical when it comes to following physical distancing in restaurants.

“So the authorities must keep them on their toes always through regular inspections and enforcement,” he said.
