Silver state going for gold in Malaysia Games

-

PERAK clinched the Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) Senior T20 Inter-State Championship title with a nine-wicket win over Johor at the Kinrara Oval on Sunday to complete a double over the weekend.

Fresh from winning the MCA Senior 50 - Overs Inter-State Championship on Saturday for their first trophy in 10 years, Perak made it two-for-two by finishing top of the T20 standings with four wins in as many matches.

“The tournament, which started in January, was stopped during the Movement Control Order period. However, the players kept themselves active at home before the restart.

“And we were rewarded with our first sweet double in this tournament.

“I believe Perak are ready to trade in the silver won at the last Malaysia Games (2018) to gold in Johor next year,” said Perak C r i c k e t p r e s i d e n t V. V i j ayalingam.

Negri Sembilan ended a miserable run of seven defeats across both formats with a two-wicket win over Selangor at the Selangor Turf Club.

However, Negri still finished bottom with two points on net run-rate while Selangor (two points) took fourth.

Kuala Lumpur finished runners-up on four points, ahead of Johor on net run-rate.

Perak, who lost in last year's T20 final to KL, won all eight matches across both formats to underline their dominance in the tournament with a squad, comprising a mix of junior and senior players.

National captain Ahmad Faiz Noor was instrumental in driving Perak to victory on Sunday as he finished with an unbeaten fifty.

Man-of-the-match Faiz was full of praise for his young teammates, six of whom came from Perak's 2018 Malaysia Games squad.

Among them were Sharvin Muniandy, Dhivendran Mogan, Ajeb Khan and Syahmi Ismail.
