UOB partners VMware to continue innovation drive

-

KUALA LUMPUR: United Overseas Bank (UOB) has collaborated with VMware to enable the bank to continue its innovation drive as the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in a majority of the workforce shifting to home-based work.

UOB was one of the fastest organisations in Asean to deploy a secure virtual desktop, the UOB DevTop, for its team of 3,000 information technology (IT) developers.

Designed to meet the bank’s robust security standards and minimise risks, UOB DevTop provides IT developers with a secure sandbox to test and implement upgrades to UOB’s digital services and solutions.

This enabled its IT developers to meet the bank’s software development schedules without disruption or delay.

UOB head of group technology and operations Susan Hwee said as most employees of the group shifted to home-based working during the pandemic, the bank had equipped them with the right tools and resources to enable a quick and seamless transition.

“Tapping our technology and cloud infrastructure, coupled with VMware’s solutions, we developed a more secure virtual desktop solution at an unprecedented pace and scale.

“This enabled our IT developers to continue to support the bank’s business activities and innovation drive without compromising on security,” she said in a statement yesterday.

UOB developed UOB DevTop by integrating VMware’s virtual desktop solution VMware Horizon with UOB’s highly secure IT and hybrid cloud infrastructure.

In the last three months, UOB had launched three industryleading innovative solutions.

In August, it launched its Asean digital bank, TMRW, in Indonesia. In September, it launched allin-one mobile banking app “UOB Mighty” in Malaysia, and “UOB Infinity”, a new mobile app for clients across the region.
