KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Group Bhd yesterday announced eight new routes and its collaboration with the Arts, Tourism and Culture Ministry.

Under the ministry’s stimulus package for the domestic tourism industry, 24,000 e-vouchers worth RM50 each now are available for redemption on airasia.com on a first-come-firstserved basis.

The e-vouchers enable guests to claim a discount of RM50 on any AirAsia flight with the “AK” code booked between now and Dec 13, and for travel between Dec 7 and March 31 next year.

The new routes are LangkawiIpoh, Langkawi-Kota Baru, Johor Baru-Bintulu, Johor Baru-Kota Baru, Penang-Sibu, Penang-Kota Baru and Kuching-Langkawi, which are commencing this month, and the Kota KinabaluKuala Terengganu route that is set to commence in February next year.

AirAsia Malaysia chief executive officer Riad Asmat said the tourism industry was a major contributor to the economy.

“We thank the ministry’s support in incentivising travellers with stimulus packages and we look forward to joining hands with all industry stakeholders.

“We also applaud the government’s effort in initiating the domestic green zone travel bubble,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Riad said AirAsia was confident that recovery was well underway and as one of the key players in tourism, the low-cost carrier was well-prepared to meet the pentup travel demand.

“Besides allowing Malaysians to travel conveniently once restrictions are lifted, we also hope to provide more opportunities for businesses to thrive by facilitating logistics and cargo shipments,” he added.
