EMCO at 2 Perak premises extended

KUALA LUMPUR: The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at the Tapah Prison and staff quarters in Batang Padang, Perak, since Feb 16 will be extended for another two weeks, starting tomorrow until March 15.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Health Ministry had screened 875 individual­s at both the premises, and 178 tested positive for Covid-19.

“The spread of the infection is still going on among the detainees in this prison and there are still 505 samples awaiting results,” he said yesterday.

Ismail Sabri said the EMCO would also be enforced at the Imperial

Garments Flat workers’ hostel at Anjung Tawas Damai in Perak, starting today until March 14 following a sharp increase in cases in this locality with a highinfect­ivity rate in the community.

A total of 524 individual­s were screened and 213 tested positive.

He said the EMCO was to enable the ministry to conduct targeted screening of the hostel’s residents and subsequent­ly to prevent further infection in the community.

On the EMCO at SM Sultan Idris Shah 2 in Gerik, Perak, which began on Feb 6, it will end today as scheduled.

On non-compliance with the standard operating procedures, 509 were detained on Friday, with 472 compounded and 37 remanded.

Ismail Sabri said of the total, 114 had indulged in activities at entertainm­ent centres. The others did not wear face masks (94), failed to provide visitor registrati­on tools at their premises (92),

did not observe physical distancing (91), carried out interstate or interdistr­ict travel without permission (58), opened premises beyond permitted hours (44), gambled (two), did not adhere to a quarantine order (one) and others (13).

He also said police conducted 67,031 inspection­s nationwide and among the locations checked were supermarke­ts, restaurant­s, hawker stalls, factories, banks and government offices nationwide.

As for Op Benteng, Ismail Sabri

said seven illegal immigrants were nabbed, while three land vehicles and one boat were seized. He added that 814 individual­s who arrived at the internatio­nal entry points were ordered to undergo quarantine.

On foreign workers’ screening, he said of the 13,091 workers who were tested on Friday, 20 came back positive.

He said based on data from the Human Resources Ministry, 519,984 foreign workers had been tested to date, 8,578 of whom confirmed positive for Covid-19.
