Repairman helps create awareness of wastage

-

KOTA KINABALU: Charles Mickey Michael’s repair skills have helped him salvage a broken 32-inch television and even “give away” ceiling fans to relatives without having to buy them. He is among the eight skilled people who took part in a programme to complement Kota Kinabalu City Hall’s efforts in minimising waste in the city. The 40-year-old City Hall driver, who had worked with engineering and technical companies before, said he often found such items broken and discarded at dumpsites. “The television was discarded due to malfunctioning speakers, but I could use it again after modifying its audio system,” he said at the new Lestari Centre Kota Kinabalu. The centre was set up to create awareness of item wastage and provide employment for individuals skilled in mending electronic and clothing items. It opens between 8am and 5pm daily.
