ONE year on, the world is slowly adapting to the new norm due to Covid-19. The pandemic has changed how businesses operate, increasing rapidly the speed of adoption of digital technologies.

To keep up with rising demand and digital acceleration, one company has embraced a specific mission — to create technology that makes life better for everyone. That company is HP Inc.

Working from home is slowly becoming a lifestyle as more and more companies adapt to change.

The newly adopted virtual lifestyle helps organisations increase diversity, promote inclusion and opens up the possibility of hiring staff who do not fit the traditional corporate mould — including stay-at-home parents, people with disabilities as well as guardians who care for others such as the elderly or sick family members.

While many welcome the much relaxed, less stressful peak hour daily commute, not having the same equipment and resources provided in the office is very much a dread to many who are now working from home.

During these challenging times, HP is committed to empowering businesses by equipping the national workforce of today with the technology and collaboration tools to facilitate seamless workflows.

PROTECTING WHAT MATTERS

Technology is not all sunshine and rainbows. Despite the ease it has brought us, especially during these trying times, it can also bring challenges.

In a report released by CyberSecurity Malaysia last year, fraud topped the list of cybercrimes, while intrusion a.k.a. hacking came second, followed by cyber harassment and malicious codes.

A total of 7,765 incidents were reported to CyberSecurity in the first eight months of 2020 alone.

Security risks have never been greater and the rising cases of cybercrime marks a norm since the start of the pandemic.

As much as we want to embrace remote working, many are not ready for it, security-wise.

With most transactions happening online — from banking, doing work-related materials to submitting school work — Internet safety is something one should not disregard.

As the future of work brings micro-mobility into perspective, HP, as a global leader in security for PC and print, continues to innovate to ensure businesses are able to protect what matters through security within, on and above the operating layer.

Security features such as HP SureView and HP SureSense have been designed to adapt to the workforce of today.

HP SureView is an anti-glare privacy screen that combats serious voyeurs while HP SureSense uses artificial intelligence (AI) to block users against known and unknown threats.

Every technology decision counts in the battle to keep businesses and consumers secure.

HP’s intelligent, proactive, hardware-enforced security ensures every HP device is ready to hold its own against attacks, support the defences of the network it sits in, and get back to business quickly — straight out of the box.

PROTECTING THE FUTURE

The rise of technology comes with another concern: its impact on the world in general.

Technology as we know it uses a lot of components, including plastics, metals and boxes. As the tech industry grows, this is becoming a worrisome issue.

For HP, the planet’s safety is also on its agenda. Dedicated to driving progress towards a more sustainable future with the world’s most sustainable PC portfolio, sustainable impact is not something new to the company.

Its journey began in 1940 and has been the guiding factor in HP’s commitment to create positive, lasting change for the planet and its people in a world where technology dominates everyday life and interactions.

At HP, its industry-leading goal is to increase the use of post-consumer recycled plastic across its PC portfolio.

Committed in its sustainable journey, HP has embarked on efforts to tackle the challenge of ocean plastics.

Based on data released in HP’s 2019 Sustainable Impact report, the company sourced almost 800kg of ocean-bound plastics that were in HP ink cartridges and hardware.

With resale and recycling services available in 76 countries and territories worldwide, HP continuously plays its part by innovating the use of ocean-bound plastics and keeping its manufacturing waste minimal, which makes it one of the most sustainable companies in the world.

On top of its efforts to collect, sort and recycle discarded laptops and other devices in the making of its new products, HP extends the use of ocean-bound plastics to its PC portfolio too. Moulded into new parts such as laptop enclosures, fan enclosures and speakers, HP Elite Dragonfly is perfect evidence of the company’s commitment to making its business not only sustainable for all walks of life, but for the planet too.

Starting under 1kg, the HP Elite Dragonfly gives a new level of freedom to those working on the go.

It features a stunning dragonfly blue finish, an optional 1000-nit ultra-bright display and advanced security to keep you safe and productive wherever the day takes you. As if being the world’s first notebook made with ocean-bound plastics is not enough, 80 per cent of the HP Elite Dragonfly’s mechanical parts are also made of recycled materials.

RECOGNISING THE EFFORT

Big on supporting the planet, people and communities, HP has continuously innovated and adapted to the needs of the future workforce, taking into consideration issues such as flexibility, security, sustainability and reliability as core to its innovation.

As HP continues to reduce climate impact on its supply chains, operations, and products and solutions, the company has achieved numerous milestones in its journey, including receiving a triple “A” score for transparency and action on climate, forests, and water; recognised as a CDP Supplier Engagement Leader; and recognised in the CDP Climate “A” list for the sixth year in a row for its actions to cut emissions, mitigate climate risk, and develop a low-carbon economy.

Its continuous support for both local businesses and consumers resulted in HP being awarded the highest recognition: the Gold award under category Cameras, IT and Office, and Business Equipment for the Putra Brand Awards earlier this year.

This is important to HP as it is the first time the company has won the highest prestige, judged unanimously by over 6,000 consumers nationwide.

Poised and committed to keep innovating and delivering only the best technology to consumers, HP Malaysia also pledged to remain steadfast and be a long-standing partner with Malaysians and the communities within to advance digital transformation for a better and stronger Malaysia.
