Timber council reaches out to industry players

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) made its debut yesterday at the virtual Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) Furniverse 2021.

This is in line with its efforts to reach out to timber industry players and increase the awareness of forest and timber certification.

MTCC chief executive officer Yong Teng Koon said such virtual trading experience is the go-to in today’s business sphere and an ideal platform for the council to connect with industry players in these challenging times.

“This real-time platform is an opportunity for us to reach out to more industry players and raise awareness of certified or sustainably-sourced timber from Malaysia and their applications.

“The pandemic-hit situation has inevitably caused many businesses to re-strategise to weather the impact. So, we see this as a timely opportunity to share insights at our virtual booth with conscious businesses and encourage them to consider certified timber throughout their supply chains,” he said.

The MIFF Furniverse, which is taking place until Friday, offers an online sourcing alternative to global furniture buyers.

MIFF is among the top furniture fairs in the world.

Seventy exhibitors showcased their products at the first edition of MIFF Furniverse in August last year. According to the event website, MIFF Furniverse 2020 generated 2,468 business leads and attracted 922 visits from 84 countries, mainly furniture importers, wholesalers and retailers.

Among the products in high demand last year were bedroom and living room furniture.
