1,199 NEW COVID-19 CASES, 2 DEATHS

Selangor has highest number of new cases, followed by Sarawak and Kelantan

THE Health Ministry recorded 1,199 new Covid-19 cases up to noon yesterday, raising the total number of infections in the country to 340,642.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement said there were 14,209 active cases.

He said of the daily cases, 1,194 were local infections (959 Malaysians and 235 foreigners), and five more were imported (two Malaysians and three foreigners).

Selangor recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 cases at 283 (23.6 per cent), followed by Sarawak (276 cases or 22.3 per cent), and Kelantan (138 cases or 11.5 per cent).

“There are 167 Covid-19 cases being treated at the Intensive Care Units, with 72 of them on ventilator support,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

There were 1,257 new recoveries reported yesterday, raising the total number of patients who have recovered from Covid-19 to 325,182 or 95.5 per cent.

Two new deaths were also reported, bringing the death toll to 1,251 (0.37 per cent).

Dr Noor Hisham also said nine more Covid-19 clusters had been identified in the country, five of which were linked to workplaces. The remaining four were community clusters.

This, he said, brought the tally of Covid-19 clusters to 1,344.

“Two of the new workplace clusters were reported in Sabah (Inanam Taipan and Jalan Kastam Baru clusters) and one each in Johor (Jalan Kong Kong cluster), Kuala Lumpur (Bulatan Pandan constructi­on site cluster), and Pahang (Jalan Putra Square cluster).

“Three of the new community clusters were registered in Sarawak (Jalan Gridbid, Kampung Baru Hilir, and Jalan Tanjung Kidurong clusters), and the remaining one cluster reported in Kelantan (Gong Kulim cluster).”

Dr Noor Hisham said up to yesterday there were 392 active clusters with the most cases reported from the Kampung Baru Hilir cluster (29) and Persiaran Cassia Selatan cluster (25).

He said 952 clusters had ended, including the 10 which ended yesterday.

They are the Jalan Gemilang Satu cluster, Jalan Scientex Jaya cluster, Kampung Pulau Raja cluster, Jalan Putra Silang cluster, Persiaran Puteri constructi­on site cluster, Casa Permai cluster, Renggam cluster, Seruling cluster, Jalan Mega Teknologi cluster, and Persiaran Mutiara constructi­on site cluster.
