Ex-cop to hang for stepdaughter’s murder

-

KUALA LUMPUR: It was a tearful time at the High Court here when a former police corporal was sent to the gallows for murdering his two-year-old stepdaughter six years ago.

Muhammad Khairuanuar Baharuddin, 39, was found guilty of murdering Hanis Amanda Mohd Zafil.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence.

Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah, in his judgment, said the defence failed to raise any reasonable doubt in the case.

Two women believed to be the accused’s family members could not hold back their tears in the public gallery after the judgment.

The accused, clad in a yellow shirt and jeans, was calm and smiled as he tried to comfort the women after the proceedings ended.

“Please forgive me,” Khairuanuar was heard saying to the women before being ushered into the court’s lockup.

The former police corporal had committed the offence at F-03, Loging Height 1, Jalan 1/27C, Seksyen 5, Wangsa Maju here between 7am and 7pm on Nov 6, 2015.
