2 S.O.P. violations on Wednesday the lowest, says Ismail Sabri

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The authorities recorded the lowest number of people who failed to observe the standard operating procedures with two arrests on Wednesday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the duo were caught attempting to travel between states without permission.

Both were slapped with compounds.

Ismail Sabri said the Compliance Operation Task Force had conducted 48,495 inspections nationwide on Wednesday.

“A total of 3,692 compliance teams inspected 4,582 supermarkets, restaurants (5,795), factories (2,125), banks (3,011), government offices (1,019) and hawker stalls (4,022).”

They also checked 120 markets and agro-markets, 231 places of worship, 16,447 recreational places, 3,194 land transport terminals, 1,807 water transport terminals and 1,006 air transport terminals, he added.

Ismail Sabri, who is the senior defence minister, said 50 illegal immigrants were nabbed with two boats and five land vehicles seized.

On returnees, he said 638 people had arrived at international arrival points and were ordered to undergo quarantine.

Since July 24, authorities had logged 159,661 returnees with 1,194 taken to hospitals, he said.

Under the mandatory screening programme for foreign workers, he said, the authorities had taken 2,950 samples with 43 testing positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday.

To date, 667,896 foreign workers had taken the test, with 10,116 having the virus, he added.

Two localities in Sabah — Kampung Rimbayan in Keningau and Kampung Simpang 3A, Tawau — would be placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from today to April 15, he added.

He said the decision to impose the EMCO was made after the Health Ministry confirmed there was a spike in Covid-19 cases accompanied by a high infectivity rate in these areas.

He said the EMCO would allow the Health Ministry to conduct targeted screenings and prevent the spread of Covid-19.

“Up to March 31, the ministry has conducted 301 screenings in Kampung Rimbayan, Keningau, Sabah, and 29 cases were recorded.”

Ismail Sabri said: “After a risk assessment conducted by relevant agencies at the MCO technical meeting and upon the Health Ministry’s advice, the government has agreed to enforce the EMCO in Kampung Rimbayan, Keningau, Sabah from April 2 to April 15.”

He announced the government’s decision to place Kampung Simpang 3A, Merotai Besar, in Tawau under the EMCO starting today due to a spike in cases within one week and a high infectivity rate in the community.

He said up to March 31, the ministry had tested 12 people in the locality, with seven coming back positive and four waiting for their results.
