Aiman books SuperPole place in style

- Ishak

PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha-CKJ Racing fired an early warning to their rivals with a solid performance in qualifying at the Petronas Malaysia Cub Prix at Sepang Circuit yesterday.

CKJ Racing’s Aiman Tahiruddin set the early marker with one minute 16.736 seconds to top the CP150 timesheets, 0.274s ahead of second placed Azroy Hakeem Anuar (Honda Yuzy Idemitsu).

Aiman’s veteran CKJ Racing teammate, Affendi Rosli (+0.316s) was third fastest just ahead of round one winner Muzakkir Mohamed (+0.390s) of Onexox TKKR Racing Team.

Last season’s overall champion Helmi Azman (SCK Honda Racing Team) rounded out the top-five with 1:17.165s.

The top 10 earned their slots in today’s SuperPole session which will determine their grid positions.

Aiman, the only rider to dip under the 1:17s mark yesterday, and Affendi proved that CKJ Racing have made improvements over the past two weeks.

The Terengganu-born Aiman, however, downplayed his strong early pace. “I think we are going to have very close race (today) because if you look at the timesheets, there is only half a second difference among the top-15 riders,” he said.

Aiman, who finished sixth in round one a fortnight ago, is in his fourth season in the Cub Prix premier class.

Meanwhile, Adib Rosley (Ipone Yamaha YY Pang Racing Team) topped the CP125 class qualifiers on a 1:22.191s lap while Syamil Amsyar Iffende (Idemitsu DFZ Yam Honda Racing) was fastest in the Wira KBS class on 1:24.864s. Fadhli
