So loving this facial essence

- By Syahirah Mokhtazar

A WET sponge absorbs more water than a dry sponge. Essentially, that’s how skin works when it comes to applying products.

When it’s hydrated, the skin is able to absorb ingredients from skincare products more effectively. That’s what facial essences do for the skin.

Although many confuse it with a toner, a facial essence essentially primes the skin to absorb subsequent products in your skincare routine like moisturisers and serums.

I’ve recently included Jurliqe’s Activating Water Essence into my skincare routine.

Twice a day, I would place a few drops in my palm and gently press it directly onto my face after cleansing (using a cotton wool pad isn’t recommended as you will be wasting the product).

Jurlique presents its essence in a smooth, frosted 150ml glass cylinder that’s minimal and modern. I like the simple design. Its texture is light and watery, just the way I like it.

Its key ingredient is the organically grown Marshmallow Root extract which hydrates and improves the skin’s ability to retain moisture.

In addition, it also features botanicals grown on the Jurlique farm such as calendula, neem and lavender so the product carries a delightful floral scent.

Once applied, the essence dries up quickly and doesn’t leave a sticky feeling.

Besides a boost of hydration, it helps minimise my pores. The bumps on my nose due to whiteheads have also begun to disappear.

I’m halfway through a bottle but I’ll be taking my time with this one as it’s pretty pricey. It costs RM295 a pop — but it's so worth it.
