TSG score two in top-10 finishers

-

THE Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) capped their campaign in Turkey with a promising performance at the recent Tour of Mevlana.

After winning three out of six one-day races (all UCI 1.2) in Alanya in February and March, TSG did well to place two of their riders in the top 10 in the general classification at the Tour of Mevlana (UCI 2.2).

TSG lead coordinator Sharonjane Liau commended her charges, including new signing Jeroen Meijers, for their performances.

“It was not easy for the boys to race in the Tour of Mevlana as the weather and (hillier) terrain were a lot different to what they had faced in Alanya,” said Sharonjane yesterday.

“They, however, did well to adapt quickly, and Harrif Saleh managed a decent 10th in the first stage while Carlos Quintero and Youcef Reguigui finished second in stage three and four.

“Meijers, who joined us before the start of the tour, took some time to settle in after not racing for a long time.

“However, he did well to find his legs in the last two stages of the tour and played a key role for us. We hope he will continue to improve as the season progresses.

“In the end, we were able to finish third (Quintero) and sixth (Metkel Eyob) overall in the general classification, which is a good result.”

Colombian Quintero will be pleased with his continued strong form as he had also won the Grand Prix of Gundogmus and GP Velo Alanya in February and March.

Dutchman Meijers had competed for China outfit SSOIS Miogee Cycling Team last year.

TSG will next compete at the Tour of Rwanda on May 2-9, followed by the Tour of Thailand on May 11-16.
