2 corporals who busted syabu trafficking syndicate promoted

-

NIBONG TEBAL: Two corporals from the police motorcycle patrol unit (URB) who smashed a syabu trafficking syndicate with international links in February, have been promoted to sergeant.

Simon Pasang Anak Kana, 33, and Muhamad Shahilmi Shahadan, 30, are attached to the Seberang Prai Tengah’s Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department.

Shahilmi said the promotion not only motivated him to work harder, but also encouraged other personnel in the force to give their best.

“When I was informed about the promotion, I was shocked and grateful to be given the chance.

“This is a blessing for my wife and three boys. It usually takes 10 years to reach this position.

“Today (yesterday), I am happy and excited to be given a sergeant’s rank by Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department director Datuk Zainal Abidin Kasim,” he said after a ceremony yesterday.

Present was state police chief Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan.

On Feb 25, Penang police busted the syabu trafficking syndicate following the seizure of 623.75kg of the drug worth RM22.76 million.

The seizure was the biggest recorded in the past five years.

This was the first time the police URB had foiled a major drug trafficking syndicate.

Simon Pasang said he and Shahilmi had served in the force for the past 10 years, and the success in smashing the syndicate was a sweet memory.

He said he did not expect to be promoted to sergeant.

“This success is not only for the two of us, but also the police force. We are thankful to (Datuk) Zainal and (Datuk) Sahabudin for recognising us and proposing our promotions.”

Zainal said the success of the two personnel proved that officers and personnel in the force served with the highest integrity.

“This promotion will also motivate other officers and personnel to give their best.”
