Tanker crew dies, 3 critical after inhaling ammonia gas
A Turkish crew on a tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas died, and three others were reported to be in critical condition, after they were believed to have inhaled ammonia gas, in international waters near West Port Klang on Tuesday. Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deputy director (Operations) Maritime Commander Norihan Ngah, who confirmed the incident said the agency was alerted on the matter by a shipping agent about 11pm. State MMEA personnel, together with the Hazardous Material Unit Team of the Fire and Rescue Department, went to the location where the tanker, MV Hamburg DW, had anchored at southwest of Pulau Selat Kering about 3am yesterday, to retrieve the victims.
