Five wooden huts at the Madrasah Diniah Bakriah religious school in Pasir Tumboh went up in flames in a pre-dawn fire yesterday. However, no casualties were reported in the 2am incident. Pasir Tumboh Fire Rescue station chief El Taraff Mohd Zachariah said 24 firefighters went to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 2.43am. “The five huts were about 90 per cent destroyed when firefighters arrived at the scene. They managed to control the fire from spreading to 12 other nearby huts.” He said they took almost two hours to put out the flames. “The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.” It was learnt that the five huts housed all male students and they were sleeping when the fire broke out.
