Actress Noryati Taib dies at 63

ACTRESS Noryati Taib, 63, who was known for her role as Makcik Petir, died at 1.45am yesterday. The news was shared by her son, Faizul Hafiz Hashim, on Facebook. “I regret to inform you that Mama has passed away at 1.45am. I request for your kind prayers towards Allahyarha­mah to be placed among the righteous,” he said.

Noryati’s nephew, producer and director Shahruleza­d Mohameddin, also relayed the news on Instagram.

Other fellow artistes, including singer and radio announcer Haiza Hanafi, also shared the news of her death.

It was previously reported on Feb 3 that Noryati had tested positive for Covid-19.

Fortunatel­y, the late artiste recovered after almost two weeks of treatment.

In 2017, she was reported to have been admitted to a hospital for a lung infection.

Aside from that, her leg had also been amputated due to diabetes.

Noryati was known for her roles as Makcik Petir, Makcik Isabella and Makcik Mary in several drama series, such as Sindarela, SyurgaMu Ramadan, Dotty and Tari Tirana.
