KUALA LUMPUR: FGV Holdings Bhd said 66 of its 67 palm oil mills have adopted the palm oil mill integrated system (Pomis) to boost their performances.

Its plantation sector group divisional director Syed Mahdhar Syed Hussain said it was vital to expedite Malaysia’s Fourth Industry Revolution (Industry 4.0) journey.

“In line with Industry 4.0, technological integration is needed in the palm oil industry, which is known to be labour intensive in its operations.

“Through Pomis, FGV’s mills can achieve their rated capacity consistently and systematically, with improved day-to-day operations. This contributes to more sustainable practice.”

FGV, through its subsidiary and tech arm FGV Prodata Systems Sdn Bhd, is modernising traditional industrial practices through Pomis, which offers a total solution to monitor palm oil mills through an integrated automated system.

It uses smart technology and sensors for increased automation and improved communication to achieve better plant supervision, such as operational control and monitoring system.

Further, it enables better decision-making for managers through operational data analysis, which is generated daily.

The system ensures a safer working environment as it has features that reduce work-related accidents.

Pomis also helps reduce the human labour dependency on mill operations by five per cent via automation.

The system also reduces fuel fibre consumption by 15 per cent for boilers, contributing to lesser emissions.
