NEW IGP: WE CAN DO IT TOGETHER
Experience of men in blue will see tasks through, says Acryl Sani
NEWLY appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani acknowledged that it will be difficult to shoulder the responsibilities of the post without the cooperation of his colleagues in blue.
Speaking after the handover of duties ceremony as the nation’s top cop yesterday morning at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman here, he said he believed that if everyone, especially department directors, and state and district police chiefs, were to help, ensuring the safety of the community would not be impossible.
“If you ask how I feel (about being appointed as IGP), honestly my answer is that it is as if a heavy burden has been placed on my shoulders.
“Alone, I believe I would not be able to shoulder this monumental responsibility because every decision I make will have consequences.
“However, I am confident that with the experienced directors, and state and district police chiefs, we can complete any unfinished task for the sake of public welfare and safety,” he said in a press conference posted on the police Facebook page yesterday.
His predecessor, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador, was present earlier to officially hand over duties to Acryl Sani, witnessed by Deputy Home Minister I Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Mohamed Said, who represented Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Acryl Sani, 60, has 35 years’ experience in the force and has held various senior positions before being named the 13th IGP.
He said integrity in the force would be among his priorities.
“I will elaborate on this issue in a separate session in the future. We will focus on several issues in order of importance,” he said.
Acryl Sani replaced Hamid, whose service contract expired yesterday, after two years.
The Petaling Jaya native holds a Master of Science (Management) and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Hons).
Acryl Sani joined the police on Feb 2, 1986. Among the police departments he had led were Crime Prevention and Community Safety, Commercial Crime Investigation, Strategic Resources and Technology, and Internal Security and Public Order.
