Couple, two friends charged with trafficking 392kg of drugs
A couple and their two friends were charged at the magistrate’s court here yesterday with trafficking in 392.767kg of cannabis two weeks ago.
However, no plea was recorded from them when the charge was read before magistrate Mohd Izuddin Mohd Shukri.
According to the charge sheet, Khairul Idzam Khairuddin, 50, his wife Fazliana Zainudin, 37, and their two friends — Mohd Kamarul Kamaludin, 37, and Adibah Noor Nekmat, 31, — were jointly charged with trafficking a dangerous drug, suspected to be cannabis, weighing 392.767kg.
The offences were allegedly committed at a house in Kampung Paya Bemban, here, at 8pm on April 20.
The four were charged under section 39B (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and face the death penalty if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Sharifah Amirda Shasha Amir Shariffuddin prosecuted while the four were unrepresented.
Izuddin fixed July 29 for mention and submission of the chemistry report.
Previously, it was reported that police had busted two drug distribution syndicates.
In the operation the police seized drugs, both cannabis and syabu worth RM4.5 million, in separate operations in Kota Baru and Tanah Merah in Kelantan two weeks ago.
