KEDAH RULER SADDENED OVER FLOODS
Ruler offers condolences to victims’families, hopes those missing will be found soon
SULTAN of Kedah Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah said he was deeply saddened over the water column incident in Gunung Jerai on Wednesday.
Comptroller of the Kedah Royal Household Datuk Paduka Bakar Din, in a statement yesterday, said Sultan Sallehuddin offered condolences to the affected families and hoped that they remain calm.
“During the incident, 16 families in Kuala Muda and 890 families in 24 villages in Yan were affected.
“The incident in Yan claimed four lives, while one suffered minor injuries and two remain missing. The sultan prays that those missing will be found safe and sound.”
He said the sultan reminded those in the affected areas to be careful and prioritise safety.
The ruler urged the people to continue adhering to the authorities’ instructions for evacuations and follow standard operating procedures to prevent a Covid-19 outbreak, he added.
“Sultan Sallehuddin hopes all parties can appreciate nature, and preserve and care for the environment to prevent any recurrence.”
He said the ruler had expressed gratitude to state and federal governments, agencies, security personnel, private companies and individuals who helped the victims of the tragedy.
Sultan Sallehuddin, he said, also expressed gratitude for the assistance given by other states to Kedah.
