Traffic police reopen city routes diverted for rally
KUALA LUMPUR: All 88 routes in the capital here that were diverted due to a planned rally at Dataran Merdeka have been reopened. City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said the routes that were closed since 9am were reopened to road users at 2.50pm. Light rail transit, Mass Rapid Transit and monorail services resumed operations at 3pm. City police chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said checks between 9am and 3pm showed that the situation in the city was under control. Checks at Dataran Merdeka since 8am also showed that the scheduled rally did not take place. It was reported that a rally organised by Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR) would be held at Dataran Merdeka to protest against former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his cabinet members. SSR, however, said on Thursday the rally would be cancelled as Muhyiddin resigned on Monday.
