No student contact for unvaxxed Kedah teachers
ALOR STAR: All 162 unvaccinated primary and secondary school teachers in Kedah will not be allowed direct contact with students.
State Religious, Education and Human Resources Committee chairman Datuk Najmi Ahmad said unvaccinated teachers must still go to school, but would be placed in a separate location to ensure the health and safety of students and other teachers.
“I’m not sure why they have not been vaccinated.
“Perhaps it is because their own perception, religious beliefs or fear of getting the jab due to the negative news (on the vaccines) on social media.”
He said this after handing over tablets donated by Permodalan Nasional Bhd to 70 secondary school students at Dewan Seri Mentaloon here yesterday.
Najmi said unvaccinated teachers had to adhere to standard operating procedures to avoid disciplinary action.
Regarding Covid-19 cases involving students and teachers at schools in Kedah, Najmi said the situation was under control and all parties had taken measures to contain the spread of the virus.
“Schools that have cases will remain open.
“Only affected classes will be closed for sanitisation.
“The Health Ministry, state education department and state religious department will work together to resolve this issue.”
It was reported that 24 male students from Maktab Mahmud Sik had tested positive for Covid19 on Dec 3.
Three teachers from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Pendang also tested positive for the virus and had been issued with home surveillance orders.
