25 villagers evacuated due to flash flood

Twenty-five people in Kampung Sungai Kluang Laut near Batu Pahat were evacuated due to flash floods on Sunday night. State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said the relief centre was opened at 9pm after several houses in the village were inundated. “A high tide of more than 3m overflowed into Kampung Sungai Kluang Laut, causing the flash flood,” he said. Six men, seven women, four senior citizens, six children and two babies were evacuated. Vidyananthan said despite the sunny weather yesterday morning, the authorities would continue monitoring the situation.
