THE Pahang government will help to monitor government projects to ensure that they are completed according to schedule and not turned into “projek sakit” (sick projects).

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail (BN-Jelai) said based on a recent understanding, the government projects carried out would be jointly monitored by the federal and state governments.

“For example, when the federal ministry builds a hospital or clinic, the tender process and budget are handled by the ministry, while the state government or Health Department is not given an opportunity to monitor the project. I raised this matter at a recent meeting (with the federal government) that delays occur as the state government (cannot do much) since it is a project by the ministry at the federal level).

“We now have an understanding that all projects will be jointly monitored by the state and federal governments until their completion. We have also identified the ‘sick projects’,” he said at the state assembly yesterday.

He was replying to a supplementary question from Chiong Yoke

Kong (DAP-Tanah Rata), who wanted to know the efforts taken by the Pahang government to ensure that uncompleted projects under the 11th Malaysia Plan would be completed under the 12MP.

Wan Rosdy said 271 projects in several categories involving various ministries and districts would be continued under the 12MP at a cost of RM19.894 billion. They include 16 projects in Bentong at a cost of RM1.6 billion, 20 projects in Bera at a cost of RM1 billion, 11 projects in Cameron Highlands with a cost of RM221 million, 26 projects in Jerantut with a cost of RM1.7 billion and 48 projects in Kuantan costing RM6.3 billion.

Wan Rosdy said the delays were due to weather conditions, contractor issues and other factors.

To a supplementary question from Lee Chin Chen (DAPBilut) on the status of the Central Spine Road between Bentong and Pelangai, he said matter was raised in a recent meeting with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed to include the project in the next Malaysia Plan.
