Nestle to fully shift to renewable energy by Jan 1
KUALA LUMPUR: Nestle (M) Bhd aims to fully transition to renewable electricity across all of its operations by Jan 1.
This will allow the company to reduce 75,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent every year.
With this move, Nestle said it was fulfilling its commitment to have 100 per cent of its electricity coming from renewable energy sources by 2025.
“This move has been made possible by the Green Electricity Tariff (GET) programme, launched by the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry in partnership with TNBX Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Bhd, at the end of last month.”
Nestle is one of the nine companies that pledged the adoption of this programme and is among the first to have completed the approval process.
With this, all operational sites of the company in Malaysia will utilise renewable electricity.
Chief executive officer Juan Aranols said as Nestle strove to shape a greener future for all, it continuously worked to minimise its environmental impact.
He said by adopting the green tariff programme, the company could now get its electricity from solar and hydroelectric power supplied by TNBX.
“This change will allow access to Malaysia Renewable Energy Certificates, contributing to our commitment to halve our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050. We are also contributing to Malaysia’s national vision to accelerate the development of renewable energy,” he added.
TNBX managing director Nirinder Singh Johl said it was pleased to have a global company such as Nestle supporting the GET programme.
This would provide access to clean energy to incentivise Malaysians to go green and reduce their carbon footprint, he said.
