Siblings among first in state to be vaxxed
KOTA BARU: Two siblings were among the first children in Kelantan to receive their vaccination at the state-level Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids).
The two were Adam Rayyan Rizqi Mohamad Zalman, 7, and his 6-year-old sister, Nur Izzara Sofea.
They were accompanied by their mother, Sumayyah Mohd Azmi, to yesterday’s programme at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZII).
Sumayyah said she and her husband, Mohamad Zalman Senik, had registered their children for the vaccination last week.
“My husband and I explained to them about the importance of taking the vaccination and, praise be to God, they understood and were willing to accept it.
“Since then, they have been asking about the vaccination and when the time came today, both were ready,” said the 33-year-old from Bunut Payong.
The two were the couple’s first and second children. More than 40 children registered for their vaccination yesterday at HRPZII.
The programme was launched by Kelantan health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin. Present was hospital director Datuk Dr Selasawati Ghazali.
PICKids started statewide yesterday with more than 400 schools used as vaccination centres.
There were more than 168,000 children aged 5 to 11 in the state and the figure included 114,685 children aged 7 to 11 who were registered with the state Education Department.
Nationwide, 169,710 children aged between 5 and 11, or 4.8 per cent of the country’s population, had received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine up to Sunday.
