Sanusi: Govts with many Umno seats unstable

-

SIK: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor insists his claim that Malaysia’s political stability hinges on Umno not leading the country was based on the facts of the current situation.

Sanusi, who is also Pas election director, said he made his statement in the context of Pas as a component party of Perikatan Nasional (PN), which is gearing up for the Johor election next month.

“I had said that states where Umno had very few seats were the most stable, such as Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

“They are stable, there is no discord, everything is calm.

“States where Umno has many seats, Perak, Melaka, Johor as well as the federal government, there’s a lot of tension.

“There are changes of the menteri besar, chief minister, calls for a snap election. This indicates political instability.

“I put it to them that places where Umno has fewer seats are more stable.

“If they want to counter this, please present the evidence to show otherwise,” he said after an event here yesterday.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had rejected Sanusi’s claim as baseless.

Ismail Sabri said the government now was an Umno government, with an Umno prime minister who has the support of other parties.

Sanusi said as Pas election director, it was his task to convince the people to choose PN and not Pakatan Harapan (PH) or Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Surely, I won’t be campaigning for anyone other than PN.

“If you want to get involved in politics, you need to be made of sterner stuff and you must have proper arguments. In the Johor election, we must explain to the people why they must choose PN and not BN or PH.”
