KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Bhd has recognised brokers and market intermediaries for their efforts and achievements in the expansion of the capital market last year.

Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd, Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB), CGS-CIMB Securities Sdn Bhd and RHB Investment Bank Bhd (RHB IB) were among the winners of the exchange’s “Retail Investor Campaign 2021”.

Malacca Securities received 27 awards in total, including four Top Broker awards, while HLIB bagged 15 awards.

CGS-CIMB and RHB IB each received six accolades, including Top Broker awards.

“Last year proved to be a challenging one globally. However, the exchange demonstrated great resilience and performed well throughout the year.

“Our retail participation grew to 35.2 per cent last year, marking another record high from the 34.3 per cent achieved in 2020,” said Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift in a statement.

He said the increase in retail participation last year was undoubtedly the result of the partnership and seamless cooperation between the exchange and participating organisations.

“On behalf of Bursa Malaysia, I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to all brokers partners and market intermediaries.”

The exchange said it would continue to work with broker partners and market intermediaries to enhance its effort to improve the marketplace and drive higher retail participation.

It added that this was in support of one of its key development goals in the capital market, which was to improve financial literacy.
