MotoGP to boost Mandalika economic zone growth

-

JAKARTA: There’s more in store for Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara after the 2022 MotoGP Pertamina Grand Prix, a premier motorcycle race next month.

Deputy I of the Presidential Staff Office, Febry Calvin Tetelepta, said more national and international events were expected to be held in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ), according to the Antara news agency.

“The implementation of the 2022 MotoGP is only the beginning of local economic recovery,” he said here, and urged the public to support the implementation of the events to create long-term multiplier effects for the community.

Empowering local communities was crucial in developing potential tourism destinations and creating multiplier effects, he said.

Febry added that this was in agreement with the commitment and directives of President Joko Widodo on the establishment and development of the economic zone.

Febry said: “Since the beginning, the development of the Mandalika area has been designed holistically.

“Thus, the infrastructure development and local community empowerment must be carried out simultaneously,” he said.

He said there would be tourism support sectors— such as construction, lodging, meal, transportation as well as micro, smalland medium-scale enterprises — that would benefit from the multiplier effect of the development of the special economic zone.

“It shows that the development of the Mandalika SEZ is dedicated to the welfare of the Indonesian people, especially the people of the West Nusa Tenggara province.”

The 2022 MotoGP Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia will be held from March 18 to 20.
