JOHOR SEEKS INDONESIA’S HELP IN SAR OP

MB says victim could have been swept into Indonesian waters

- PASIR GUDANG

THE Johor government has sought Indonesia’s help in the search for a 14-year-old Dutch diver who went missing in the waters off Pulau Tokong Sanggol in Mersing last Wednesday.

Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said this was based on observations that the victim, Nathen Renze Chesters, could have been swept into Indonesian waters.

“We are asking for help from everyone in the nearby international waters.

“All quarters in the area, Indonesia and Malaysia, have to work together to find and save the fourth victim.”

Chesters was among four foreign divers who were reported missing in the waters off Pulau Tokong Sanggol in Mersing last Wednesday.

Three of them have been rescued, two by fishermen at a location south of Pengerang, near Kota Tinggi, about 1am yesterday.

Onn Hafiz said all three divers were reported to be conscious and recovering.

He said the cost of treating the divers would be borne by the state government.

“Two more victims were found safe early today (yesterday). Another victim, who was found earlier, is recovering at Mersing Hospital.

“Doctors are doing the best for them. We hope that they will have a speedy recovery.

“We will continue to do our best and pray that the final victim will be found soon,” he said after visiting the two rescued divers at a private hospital here yesterday.

They are British national Adrian Peter Chesters, 46, and French national Alexia Alexandra Molina, 18. The missing victim is Adrian Peter’s son.

The first victim, Norwegian diving coach Kristine Grodem, 35, was found by a tugboat en route from Indonesia to Thailand at 8.15am on Thursday.
