MAJOR MILESTONES FOR XC40 RPE

- NICHOLAS KING

VOLVO Car Malaysia’s (VCM) XC40 Recharge Pure Electric (XC40 RPE) will not only be the carmaker’s first electric vehicle (EV) to be launched locally, it will also be the first EV to be assembled at its Shah Alam plant.

VCM managing director Charles Frump said it would also be the first global luxury car brand to export EVs from Malaysia to other Asean markets.

“We are delighted to launch our first pure EV in Malaysia. The launch lays the foundation for us to become the leading electric luxury car brand in the country.

“We are committed to launching a new EV every year for the next five years to support this initiative of ours. Additionally, we have the capabilities to assemble our own pure EVs for the local and other Asean markets,” he added.

Frump said VCM planned to have EVs make up 75 per cent of its lineup by 2025, in line with its ambition of becoming a fully electric company by 2030.

The XC40 RPE is a fully electric all-wheel drive sport utility vehicle (SUV) that offers a range of up to 418km on a single charge. It is

sold alongside the petrol T5 and plug-in hybrid electric powertrain variants.

VCM is the only carmaker with a full range of complete knocked-down (CKD) plug-in hybrids.

The CKD XC40 Recharge Pure Electric is now available for booking at all authorised Volvo dealerships as well as via its official website.

It is priced at RM262,459.75 and comes in the five colour options of Black Stone, Crystal White Pearl, Denim Blue, Glacier Silver and Sage Green.

The price includes a charging cable, service package, five-year vehicle warranty, eight-year HV battery warranty and five-year roadside assistance.
